I Got Quartered! Posted by kamassy , under: Omaha Hi/Lo Pot Limit, Omaha Poker Hands
What a brilliant way to end your poker day totally frustrated and leave the table empty handed. To cut to the chase, here is what happened. I was playing on the Omaha Pot Limit Hi/Lo poker table with quite a few aggressive players. My hole cards were going from bad to worse during the game, and I lost my patience. Bit to soon I presume.
When I saw these cards in my hand I said - hey, at least I can go for the low pot - if the Ace turns on the flop. And, it did! I raised a bit, waiting for the low card on the turn. Once I saw the Four, I was convinced half of the pot is mine, so I raised a whole pot. Couple of players called, while the guy on the gun re-raised. Rest of them folded. Couple of re-raises later, I was all-in before the river. 5th card didn’t bring anything new - I was still nuts regarding the low hand, but the smile was long gone from my face when I figured that he had the same cards (2 and 3). So I got quartered, since he won the whole upper pot. So, instead of winning half of the pot, I lost half of my chips.
Even worse, I was totally frustrated and went berserk which lead me off the table in minutes. So, keep it cool and you’ll be good.
