Argument with a Good Point Posted by rebecca , under: Omaha Hi Pot Limit, Omaha Poker Hands

Take a look at this Omaha Hi Pot Limit poker hand. It’s not the hand itself that was interesting, but the argument between players that happened afterward certainly was. There were three players involved (I folded), with pretty strong cards. Player on the button pushed the bet with the maximum pre-flop raise. Player on the gun called, but the next one re-raised. They kept that until everybody was all-in. Player on the other side of the table won a big pot… but the player on the button just couldn’t let go. They were arguing for quite a while, with the main point - How COULD he re-raise pre-flop with THESE cards?

Lets analyze for a second. Player on the button had a rainbow hand with pocket aces, King and Seven. Second guy had pocket Eights, weak flush potential (8-4) and hanging Ten, with a low potential for a straight. But, he had only 5 big blinds of chips, so I can understand him for playing this hand. The guy on the other side of the table, who was accused for “gambling” and “fighting the odds” had a double suited hand, A-6 and J-10.

So, the guy with pocket Aces thought he rules the table and starts the argument?
If you count the potential odds, you’ll see that everything was in favor of the double suited hand. Two flush draws (he hit one), pretty high straight potential with three high cards? Who wouldn’t push till the all in?

Other guy, on the other hand, could hope for only rainbow 10-J-Q or another ace with a Pair in community cards.

Only question remaining is - should you go all in before the flop with either of these hands? Maybe. From my point of view, neither of these two should. They were hot-shots, probably newbies to Omaha Poker.  What I saw was a typical Texas Hold’em hand, and even more typical Texas Hold’em argument.

All I got from this hand is a valuable experience.
