When the Madness Strikes the Table Posted by kamassy , under: Omaha Hi Pot Limit, Omaha Poker Hands

OK, here it goes. There are few times in each Omaha Poker session when you need to withdraw earlier in order to prevent losing chips. This is one of them. In this Omaha Hi Pot Limit poker hand I got Two Pair hole cards, Jacks and Threes. Pretty cool cards to see the flop. I don’t count J-3 as a good suited combination for flush chase, but what the hell - I decided to play this hand.

However, since as a Big Blind I was last to be asked what to do, the other guys at the tables simply lost it! They raised as it was the last hand, and they will all go to the death row next. They freaked out and minutes passed from pot-raises to all-ins. I folded my hand with a huge question mark above my head. I expected to see fantastic hands on showdown. I remind you all this action happened pre-flop.

Black Adder would say - They’re mad Baldrick! Mad like a Mad George from Mad Town on the way to Mad-burg. Take a look:

Player #1 (9s-2s-Jd-10c) - OK, he went for a straight obviously, but it is not an all in hand preflop. Conclusion - Maddest of the all.

Player #2 (3h-5h-7h-4c) - This guy went for a low straight. Cards are well connected, but again, I wouldn’t go all in with these pre-flop! Conclusion: Pretty Mad.

Player #3 (Ah-Kd-Ks-2d) - Very reasonable behavior. Pocket Kings supported with an Ace and a flush draw K-2, plus there is a A-2 potential straight as well. Conclusion: Not mad at all!

Player #4 (10h-9d-Ks-Js) - K-J suited, potential straights all around - pretty good hand. Conclusion - Not Mad - I would do the same, maybe not pre-flop.

Even more interesting is that the strongest pre-flop hand won (Player #3), but if they were not insane, I guess there would be a different winner.

If they had seen the flop before all this mad betting, I am pretty sure Players #2 and #3 would folded their cards on any significant raise. Not sure what would happen on the turn, probably they would both check, and the same would happen on the river. Player #4 would scoop the pot with Two Pair, Aces over Nines with a King kicker.

General conclusion is - if you have a strong hand, bet like mad pre-flop, or don’t go all in with weak cards. You decide.
