Busted Quads Posted by kamassy , under: Omaha Hi Pot Limit, Omaha Poker Hands

I feel so angry because it’s still fresh in my mind. I was involved in the running Full Tilt Poker Take 2 promotion so I had to play two tables at once, which was a bit distracting. As you can see below, I had a pocket Kings and a 7-4 suited as my hole cards. Omaha Hi Pot Limit is my weapon of choice for this promotion, so you may or may not agree that this is a good starting hand.

Since I was busy playing on the other table, I just called before the flop. Flop brought me a marvelous hand - King Quads. With scary two Kings on the table, nobody wanted to place a bet. I quietly hoped for someone with pocket aces (which would complete a monster full house), but no luck. Nobody placed a damn bet! OK, so I waited for a turn knowing that even a minimal bet will chase off all players. Turn came, weak Deuce, still no action. Again. I couldn’t wait any longer so I placed a half pot bet… and as I suspected everybody folded. So, I scooped only some blinds with a monster hand! That’s simply wrong.

I question myself, what could I do better:

  • I could raise pre flop. Perhaps some players that already given away some serious money would continue to pay smaller bets
  • I could wait till the river with betting. Maybe another Ace would come to the table, another Deuce, some middle card that would complete somebody’s full house or a set. Also, maybe a Queen, Jack or Ten could show up, which would have completed potential straight. However, I am not sure anybody would call my bets with Kings and Ace on the table.

What would you do in this situation?
